| The Goal of Rolling Readers
- Cape Girardeau Area is to build an Army of trained reading
strategy tutor/helpers. TOGETHER, Through our proven program,
WE CAN overpower our children's reading problems. |

Our Work
|
Rolling Readers - Cape
Girardeau Area serves as a Resource for any organization
that works with children and families.
We help train parents, tutors, and children (age 10 and
up) in Reading Strategies
that good readers use. This training provides the knowledge
to improve their own reading ability, and to help others
become good readers.
We also provide Reading Strategy training materials to
schools for their use. Training the entire class of fourth
graders (and up) to serve as peer reading helpers is becoming
popular.
We don’t teach how to read. We build on the foundation
that reading teachers have provided, with powerful reading
strategies. These easy to learn strategies are based on
research on what good readers do as they read, and as
they are learning to read.
We have found the tutoring/practice of these Reading Strategies
for 16 minutes each day can raise reading ability 62.5%
of a full grade level in as little as 20 weeks.
Our Vision: We envision a day when all children and families
will learn and love to read together and become highly
literate, learned, and contributing members of society. |
